Junichiro Koizumi
Former Prime Minister, Member, House of Representatives
Graduated from Faculty of Economics, Keio University in 1967. He held several Ministerial positions including the post of Prime Minister. His government was the third longest serving in the post-war period. During his term as Prime Minister, he established the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Dr. Noguchi's death, to which he donated all of his retirement allowance. The first award ceremony of this prize will be held at TICAD IV.

Since 2003, Chair, Advisory Board on Human Security; 03-04, member, UN High-level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change. She is now the President of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)

Joy Phumaphi, a Botswana national, is Vice President of the World Bank’s Human Development Network. Before joining the Bank in February, 2007, Joy was Assistant Director General for Family and Community Health at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, representing in addition the World Health Organization on the Board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI). From 1999-2003, Joy also served as Minister of Health for Botswana.

Jayaseelan Naidoo
Chairman, Development Bank of Southern Africa
He has held important positions including Minister responsible for the Reconstruction and Development Programme in the Cabinet of President Mandela, Minister of Telecommunications, Post and Broadcasting in 1996. Currently he is the Chairman of Development Bank of Southern Africa, the Chairman of the Board of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, Geneva, the Chairman of J&J Group Development Trust, South Africa. He also serves on the Advisory Committee on Information and Communication Technologies, set up by the former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and the Global Health Advisory Board of the Clinton Global Initiative. Recipient of award, Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
Akiko Maeda
Sector Manager, Health, Nutrition and Population, Human Development Network, The World Bank
Akiko Maeda, a Japanese national, is a World Bank health economist with 20 years of experience in development, specializing in health systems reform, with special focus on health insurance and health financing reforms. She is currently the Health Sector Manager in the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank. Dr. Maeda has a Ph.D. in Health Economics from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
Tachi Yamada
President, Global Health Program, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
As the president of the Global Health Program, he leads the foundation's efforts to help develop and deliver low-cost, life-saving health tools for the developing world. He oversees the global health grant portfolio and Global Health Advocacy. Before joining the foundation, Dr. Yamada served as Chairman of Research and Development and was a member of the Board of Directors at GlaxoSmithKline. Prior to that, he was chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and Physician-in-Chief at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Yamada is a past president of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Association of American Physicians, a master of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science in the United States and the Academy of Medical Sciences in the United Kingdom.
Tadashi Yamamoto
President, Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE)
He founded JCIE in 1970. Projects of JCIE include the Trilateral Commission, Asia Pacific Agenda Project, Japan-Korea Forum, Japan-U.K. 21st Century Group, Japanese-German Forum, and the Shimoda Conference series. Director of the Friends of the Global Fund, Japan. Through Parliamentary Exchange Programs, he has promoted dialogue and study among politicians. He has been involved in the Prime Minister's Commission. His honors include the Commander's cross of the Order of Merit from the German government, the Honorable Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and Honorary Officer (AO) from the Australian government.
Hiromasa Yonekura
Vice Chairman, Japan Business Federation / President, Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.
Joined Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. in 1960. Elected as a member of the Board of Directors in 1991 and President in 2000. Also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Europe and the Committee on Promotion of Economic Partnerships of Nippon Keidanren; Chairman of the Japan Petrochemical Industry Association; and Chairman of the Commission on Promotion of Public-Private Cooperation for TICAD and the Japan-Africa Exchange Year.

Koji Tsuruoka
Director- General for Global Issues, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Graduated from Law Faculty, Univ. of Tokyo in 1976, and Harvard Law School, LLM in 1978. Served in Embassies in Moscow, Washington and Jakarta. Chief negotiator for services during the Uruguay Round. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, served as director of legal division and north American division. Deputy Director General, Foreign Policy Bureau from 2003 to 2006. Japanese representative in many international conferences, including the preparatory committee of international criminal court, and most recently informal meetings held during the 59th session of the UN on the summit outcome document of 2005. Professor of international relations at the Graduate Research Institute of Policy Studies in 2002. He was appointed to his present post in 2006.

Yukio Hatoyama
Secretary General, Democratic Party of Japan
Member of the House of Representatives
Graduated from Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo in 1969, and earned Ph.D. in management engineering from Stanford University in 1976. After he held the position of Assistant Professor, School of Economics, Senshu University, He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1986. In 1993, he left the Liberal Democratic Party and founded the New Party Sakigake, served as the deputy chief secretary. In 1996, he founded the former Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and served as the co-President with Mr. Kan. In 1998, they founded the current DPJ. He served as DPJ deputy Secretary General (1998-1999), President of DPJ (1999 -2002), Secretary General since 2005.

Kiyoshi Kurokawa
Chairman, Health Policy Institute, Japan
Graduated from University of Tokyo department of medicine in 1962. He left Japan for the US in 1969, became a professor of internal medicine at UCLA in 1979, and came back to Japan in 1983. Professor of internal medicine at the University of Tokyo in 1989, dean of the medical school at Tokai University in 1996, Chairman of Science Council of Japan in 2007, and now the chairman of Health Policy Institute, Japan, a professor at Graduate Research Institute of Policy Studies, a commissioner of WHO. He also serves as a board member of international scientific bodies including Inter-Academy Council, International Council of Science.
